Modifications to the Application Process

The Middlesex selection process is holistic, and we seek evidence of a student’s character, curiosity, academic achievement, and interests within the context of their environment and life experiences when making our decisions.  To acknowledge challenges posed by these uncertain times, we have made the following modifications to our application process:

Standardized Testing:

Given challenges created by the Covid-19 pandemic, many students will have difficulty accessing standardized testing such as the SSAT and ISEE. Consequently, Middlesex will be test optional for the 2020-21 application year, and we commit that students who do not submit test scores will not be disadvantaged in our process.

Students able to access a standardized test may choose to submit their scores from the following tests: SSAT, ISEE, PSAT, SAT, and ACT.  In addition, we will accept testing taken during the previous academic year.

We also encourage international students to submit the TOEFL or IELTS if at all possible.

Teacher Recommendations:

As you know, we require recommendations from your current year English and Mathematics teachers; if you, however, are not currently taking one (or both) of these classes, you may substitute recommendations from teachers of your other current academic classes (excluding art and physical education) and supplement your application with letters of recommendation from one of last year’s teachers of Mathematics and/or English.

Welcome from the Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid

It is my pleasure to introduce you to Middlesex. This website provides detailed information about life at Middlesex, and instructions on the application process, and we hope that you will visit us virtually and experience the beauty of our campus and the energy and warmth of our community. It is an exciting time to be at Middlesex, with signature programs in Writing, Global Studies, Mindfulness, and STEM, spectacular new facilities for the Arts, a robust and competitive athletic program and, most importantly, thriving, happy students!

Middlesex students are kind, smart, and talented; they come from across the country and the globe, bringing an incredible array of backgrounds and experiences; they are eager to learn more about themselves and each other, stretching outside of their comfort zones while pursuing existing and new areas of interest in academics, arts, and athletics. And, they are a fun-loving bunch, enjoying their lives on campus and creating lifelong friendships.

If you are looking for a school that provides challenge and opportunity wrapped in a community where every student is known, valued, and needed, we hope you will make an appointment for an interview with an admissions officer. To do so, please call us at (978) 371-6524 or email us at [email protected].  We hope to meet you!
