Beginning on Monday, January 13th, Middlesex will have a special “Wellness Week” in which the community will have the opportunity to participate in events designed to foster health and well being. The School will welcome several guests to campus to discuss their work and lead wellness workshops, including author and alumna Awilda Rivera ’02, who will speak on Wellness: A Mind, Body, and Community Connection. Gene Beresin, executive director of The Clay Center for Young Healthy Minds at Massachusetts General Hospital, will also visit to discuss healthy stress reduction, and Mindfulness trainer Charisse Minerva will lead a Drum Circle.
Tuesday of Wellness Week will be a “tech free” day, during which students and faculty will leave their phones in their rooms, cars, or lockers for the entire day. The week will also offer numerous other opportunities, big and small, for the community to cultivate wellness, including meditation, music, group exercise, class lunches, journal writing, a 3-3 basketball tournament, coloring books, baking, knitting, and an activity in gratitude led by the student Peace of Mind Club.
