Congratulations to the Middlesex Varsity and JV Physics teams for representing the school well in our annual Physics Bowl competition. The test was particularly challenging this year, with a national average score of just 14/40 for first year students and 13/40 on a harder test for advanced students. Over 7500 students took the test at more than 500 schools across the world.
The highlight of this year’s competition was the team in Division 1 (first year students), which again finished third in our New England region with a score of 96. This effort was led by sophomore Kiara Wahnschafft ’17, whose score of 23 was well above the national average. The team score (consisting of the top 5 scores) was further helped by Keki Takahara ’16 (19), Hannah Kline ’16 (19), Caleb Michalak ’16 (18), and one of the scores from Jack Yoon ’16 (17), Phoebe Lindsay ’16 (17), Caroline Daley ’16 (17), Gavin Fujimori ’16 (17), or Lily Henderson ’16 (17). Also beating the national average were Matt Daly ’16 (16), Hyunseoung Choi ’16 (16), Rock Hoffman ’16 (16), William Baek ’16 (16), Mari Herrema ’16 (16), Louise Skelton ’15 (16), William Chamberlin ’16 (15), Conrad Meier ’16 (15), and Ellie Herring ’16 (15).
In Division 2, the team finished just outside the top 4 in our region with a team score of 70 on the very challenging test. The effort was led by Kyle Finke ’15 (16), with Matt Gardner ’15 and Matt Kafker ’15 (14), Ali Corkran ’15 (13), and Henry Minervini ’15 (13) rounding out the team score.
