MX Earth Week

Earth Day was Wednesday, April 22, and Middlesex’s environmental club, Common Sense, celebrated with a week of activities to promote conservation and environmental awareness.  On Tuesday, the community heard from Boston University professor of biology Richard Primack on how climate change affects the timing of ecological events and organisms’ behavior.  On Earth Day, students planted a Black Gum sapling to commemorate the day and went on an afternoon nature walk.  On Friday night, Common Sense hosted an unplugged evening of snacks by candlelight.

Bright and early Sunday morning, a dedicated and intrepid band of bird watchers surveyed nearly three dozen species of birds; a full list is available on EstaBlog, a new blog by science teacher Willy Hutcheson that documents observations of nature in and around Middlesex School.

Finally, Earth Week closed with the second annual MX Maple Brunch, featuring delicious artisanal syrup produced from campus sugar maples and encouraging the community to eat local.

Stay green!
