Middlesex Travels to London, Shanghai, Beijing, and Seoul

Members of the Middlesex community traveled across the ocean earlier this month to visit families and alumni throughout London, China, and Korea. In London, Head of School, Kathy Giles, Director of Development, Heather Parker, and Director of Advancement, George Noble, enjoyed a wonderful reception hosted by Mary and Adrian Pryshlak P’18. Families, friends, and alumni of Middlesex were able to enjoy a night reconnecting and meeting fellow members of the Middlesex community.

After departing London, Kathy Giles, Head of School, George Noble, Director of Advancement, and Erika Prahl, Assistant Director of Admissions, enjoyed meeting with Middlesex past and current parents, as well as various alumni in Shanghai, Beijing, and Soeul. The trip began in Shanghai where Middlesex parents hosted two fabulous dinners as well as an admissions reception. The admissions reception, held at the Ritz Carlton Pudong Shanghai,  was attended by a large number of people and Middlesex was lucky to have Sherry Du ’13 (who attended all three Shanghai events), as well as current Middlesex Trustee Mr. Chivas Lam P ’10 ’14, address the attendees.

The Shanghai reception, pictured here, was hosted by some wonderful current parents at the Jin Xuan Chinese Restaurant.

The second Shanghai reception was hosted by Mr. Wen Li and Tao Guo P’18 at Jing Pu Hui in Shanghai.

In the second destination of the trip, Beijing, a dinner for parents was hosted by Mr. Yongli Fan and Ms. Pei Pei Zhang P ’15. A great turnout was a wonderful reminder of how far reaching the Middlesex network truly is.

Middlesex parents join Kathy Giles, George Noble, and Erika Prahl for a picture after the dinner.

Another admissions reception was held at the Four Seasons Beijing. Over 150 people attended the reception and speakers included Ms. Pei Pei Zhang P’15, Mr. Jinyang Xue P ’17, Mr. Jianmin Li P’17 and Ms. Jiachen Gu P ’19.

Beijing parents gather for a photo after to the admissions reception.

Ms. Jiachen Gu P’19 gave a wonderful address to the audience as well as Kathy Giles and Erika Prahl.

While in Beijing, parents treated their Middlesex guests to a day at the Beijing Museum of Natural History followed by a wonderfully intimate lunch.

The last destination was Seoul, Korea where a dinner for both parents and alumni was hosted by Professor Chan Yul Yoo and Professor Byeng Chun Song P’17 at the Seoul Club.

The admissions event was lucky enough to have speakers Jisung Park ’02, Woo Joon Dan ’01, and Ms. Hyun Kim P’16

All events were well attended and the Middlesex community is thrilled to see the groups of Middlesex parents, alumni, and friends throughout Shanghai, Beijing, and Seoul growing. We are especially grateful to all those parents and alumni who spoke on behalf of the school and, of course, to the gracious hosts. It is a thrill to know that the Middlesex community continues to grow far beyond the gates here in Concord.
