Middlesex Alumnae Eight Boat Reigns Supreme at the Head of the Charles

Middlesex alumni, parents, and friends gathered on a beautiful fall day in Cambridge, MA to watch rowers taking part in the Head of the Charles Regatta. Since 1965 the Head of the Charles has played host to the world’s best crew teams and this year was no different. With over fifty-five different race events and nearly 9,000 athletes, the two day regatta was full of energy and excitement.

This year Middlesex spectators were lucky enough to cheer on our own alumni eight boat, whose rowers spanned decades of Middlesex graduates. From the Reunion Village tent, decked out in Middlesex flags, spectators cheered on Kathy Smithwick ‘08, Maddie Berky ‘06, Erika Mills ‘99, Jane McClellan ‘08, Olivia Blain ‘09,  Debbie Rothman Darlington ‘93, Ashley Fish ‘06, Laura Rothman ‘96, and Lousia Berky ‘04. The group did exceptional this year, as they were the fastest high school alumni boat in the event. Overall, the boat came in 17th out of 48.

Thanks to all the alumni, parents, and friends who came to Reunion Village to visit the Middlesex tent and cheer on their fellow zebras! The event, once again, was a wonderful way to enjoy the historic tradition and beautiful fall weather. Congratulations to all the rowers, but especially our alumni eight whose performance has us ready and excited to return next year and cheer them on!
