It’s not uncommon for our students to visit faculty homes on campus for a delicious meal, a quick (or never-ending) game of Monopoly, or a casual fireside chat. But each year we also have a special weekend activity called “Faculty Open Houses” in which teachers across campus welcome in students for a variety of fun, games, and food. Some students settle in for an evening at a single faculty home, while others visit several different residences throughout the night and sample the different foods and festivities.
On a peaceful winter evening this past weekend, 16 faculty members and their families opened their doors to students and offered an eclectic mix of holiday-themed activities. Across campus students and faculty sipped on hot cocoa around crackling fireplaces, ate Chinese food, watched holiday movies, played board games, crafted ornaments, and made s’mores. The food was delicious and the fireplaces were roaring, but according to our students, nothing was better than the company.
