A modest and dedicated three-sport varsity athlete in field hockey, hockey, and lacrosse, Sage is quick to call herself lucky and say “I have learned a lot about myself” while attending Middlesex.
One of the many students to regularly attend our weekly trips to Concord’s Open Table food pantry, Sage joined after attending our school-wide Community Service Day, determined to make a lasting impact.
What keeps her going back? “I find it to be a very rewarding experience because our jobs are things like mopping and cleaning the bathrooms. We don’t do the pretty work but we do get to help the community and that’s what makes it worth it.”
Also a fan of history, Sage has grown fond of the unpredictable and engaging nature of discussion based classes but, to her own surprise, has recently found excitement somewhere unexpected: on stage. While taking Elements of Style in Theatre this past year, Sage participated in the class’s culminating student-written performances, “a completely new experience to me” she says and one she hopes to repeat.
However, two favorite Middlesex moments stand out in Sage’s mind: the St. George’s Day pep rally and varsity field hockey team “chapels” the night before games. Whether listening to Athletic Director Joe Lang fire up the crowd at our annual bonfire or enjoying some team bonding, and the accompanying skits, of course, Sage appreciates the feeling of community and, because of it, she says “I have felt more comfortable trying new things because Middlesex has provided me with such a nurturing environment.”
