Parents’ Weekend 2016

Not even torrential rain or cool temperatures could dampen the enthusiasm for Parents’ Weekend 2016 at Middlesex! The event kicked off on Thursday, October 20 with a reception for international parents at the home of Head of School Kathy Giles P’06’09’11. On Friday, October 21, parents of upperclassmen were offered informative sessions from the College Counseling Office. After students and parents from each class gathered for receptions around campus with various members of the faculty, the community gathered for dinner in the Atkins Athletic Center where they were entertained by a terrific performance by the Middlesex Jazz Orchestra and heard comments from school co-Presidents Grace Crozier ’17 and Jake Goorno ’17, as well as Kathy Giles. As dinner concluded, the skies open up and everyone was treated to an unplanned light show in the form of a rare October thunderstorm. The storm did not keep guests from hearing a wonderful choral and instrumental performance by our students in Memorial Chapel in Lambert Hall.

Saturday, October 22 offered what is considered by many to be the highlight of the weekend: the opportunity for parents to visit their student’s classes. The knowledge and passion that is displayed in the classroom by these talented faculty members is extraordinary and provides parents with a flavor of what their children experience on a daily basis. After lunch and before the start of athletic contests, Kathy Giles and Chief Operating Officer Matt Crozier P’17’19 offered a look at the many new and planned additions to the Middlesex campus. Thankfully, additional predicted rain held off and the afternoon games were completed despite a strong and chilly wind.

Thanks to all of our parents who took the time to visit us for Parents’ Weekend 2016! Your presence helps makes this a highly anticipated annual event for the entire community. Please take a moment to view some photos from Parents’ Weekend.
