2018 Parents’ Weekend

Visiting parents and families were met with perfect autumn weather in Concord as they descended upon campus for Parents Weekend 2018 on October 19 and 20. After gathering for receptions by class to get the evening started, everyone flocked to the Athletic Center to enjoy a delightful meal and listen to the harmonious offerings of the Middlesex Jazz Orchestra. School President Diego Flores ’19 and Vice President Emma Murphy ’19 welcome our guests, who then heard from Parents Committee President Andy Ory P’19 and Head of School Kathy Giles P’06’09’11. Friday evening wrapped up with the option of partaking in some star gazing in our own observatory, or listening to wonderful performances in Memorial Chapel in Lambert Hall by our chamber ensemble and choral groups.

Saturday morning provided the opportunity for parents to attend their children’s classes and learn more about the objectives of each course. Whether it was performing experiments in Biology, reviewing grammar in English, or tackling a problem in Math, parents got to experience a small bit of what happens in class on a daily basis. Following a delicious lunch, guests were able to learn more about our Mindfulness program and hear about the progress of the construction of our renovated Theater Arts building. By then, it was game time and many of our students donned the cardinal and white to take on various ISL opponents. Highlights of the day included wins by boys’ varsity soccer and boys’ varsity cross-country and hard-fought, close defeats for football and girls’ soccer.

The weekend afforded parents and families with the chance to visit with their children, get to know their friends and their parents, and see all that goes in to making the Middlesex experience so special. Many thanks to the parents and families who traveled from near and far to be with us; it was a pleasure to host you!
