Winslow ’14 Named NESCAC Player of the Year

Maddie Winslow ’14 was named the NESCAC Women’s Ice Hockey Player of the Year earlier this week after a standout sophomore season at Middlebury College. The forward was third in the league in scoring this winter and became the sixth member from the Panthers to receive the league’s top honor.

In 16 conference games this season, Winslow led all players in points with 24 and assists with 13. She was tied for second in the league with 13 goals, three of which came on the power play. Winslow is a key member of Middlebury’s power-play unit and scored the game-winning goal to propel the Panthers to the NESCAC semifinals this weekend.  She is nationally ranked (15th) with 1.36 points per game, while her 0.76 assists per contest are ranked 14th.

“Middlesex really helped prepare me to be successful both on and off the ice at Middlebury. I think Middlesex really taught me the value of keeping balance in my life; whether that balance is between academics, athletics, and my social life; or between time spent committed to the things I’m already passionate about and time spent discovering new possible passions. In terms of my athletic success, I cannot thank Middlesex enough for teaching me the value of team camaraderie. To be working hard, competing, and training for not only yourself but for your teammates was a distinctive characteristic of every team I played for at Middlesex. This team mentality I appreciated so much at Middlesex has helped me recognize how to work hard at Middlebury, but always remember the fun of the game, the reason why I wanted to play college hockey in the first place,” said Winslow.

Top-seeded Middlebury hosts No. 5 Trinity at 1:00 PM on Saturday March 5 in the NESCAC Semifinals followed by No. 3 Connecticut College vs. No. 2 Amherst at 4:00 PM. The winner of each game will meet in the championship at Middlebury on Sunday, March 6 at 2:00 PM. Click here for a link to watch the game live.

Congratulations Maddie!
