The Holiday Concert is the School’s annual celebration of the winter holidays in music. Over the years, these concerts have presented a wide array of musical styles, from Renaissance motets to Duke Ellington. The 2016 concert featured Marc-Antoine Charpentier’s Messe de Minuit pour Noel, or “Midnight Mass for Christmas.” Composed in the early 1690’s, Messe de Minuit pour Noel is the ninth of twelve settings that Charpentier composed of the Mass. It contains all parts of the Ordinary, each portion based on a different French noel.
A chorus of 88 students and 19 faculty and staff joined together to sing holiday favorites like Silent Night and The Festival of Lights. The Jazz Ensemble regaled the audience with a performance of The Little Drummer Boy that featured rousing percussions from Harrison Clark ‘18, who arranged the rendition with Director Marcus Rabb. Choral Officers Grace Crozier ’17, Summer Aslam ’17, Marcus Coward ’17, and Chad Arle ’17 dazzled with an a cappella arrangement of The Little Drummer Boy, and the Chamber Ensemble presented Filez Navidad with a stellar blend of energy and grace.
