Four Seasons, Five Stars

8 years ago, when the MxAA began its search for a venue suitable for its inaugural Spring Gala Benefit and Auction, there were a few prerequisites: location, luxury and premier service.  The quest was brief, and one hotel distinguished itself from the rest.  Because of its unparalleled qualities, we are thrilled to return to the Four Seasons Hotel Boston on Friday, April 5th, 2019.

The early part of the evening will take place in the storied Aujourd’hui, located atop the Grand Staircase.  Inside, mouthwatering appetizers and creative beverage displays will tantalize and satisfy.  While there, allow the visual displays of wonderful and unique auction items to provoke your thoughtful and generous bidding.   Later, guests will head over to the Ballroom to enjoy a delicious, sit-down dinner. Here, the real action takes place when our new auctioneer John Terrio opens the live bidding and offers all guests an opportunity to compete for some truly exceptional items and exclusive experiences – all while having a terrific time!

“I have really enjoyed my last couple of Galas as a current Parent and an Alumni!     It is such a great way to connect with both groups, not to mention the opportunity to see current and former faculty.  Plus, there is no one more fun at a black tie bash than a fellow Zebra!

Tickets to this fun event are $250 each.   We will happily take your seating requests, or we will pair you with parents or alumni of similar years.

Maine claims that their state is “The Way Life Should Be”. It is hard to argue that premise on spectacular summer afternoons, and you’ll get to experience a few with this long weekend in Harpswell, Maine. Located just 10 miles from Brunswick, home of Bowdoin College, and 40 miles from Portland, Harpswell is a picturesque sea-side town. You’ll stay in a cozy two bedroom cottage located directly on the water (as such the home is not suitable for small children). You’ll have two sea kayaks available to explore on your own and there is also a 25 foot powerboat, which can be captained by Toby Seggerman ’73 to take you for lobster rolls, a swimming excursion, or a seal watching on the water. The cottage is available on a mutually convenient weekend during the summer of 2019, excluding Labor Day weekend

Mel Bochner is considered to be one of the pioneers of conceptual art during the 1960s. His art causes the viewer to read and see simultaneously, to think as you look. Bochner continues to explore the intersections of linguistic and visual representation. His work has appeared at the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museum of Modern Art, and the National Gallery of Art in Washington. This piece, entitled Blah, Blah, Blah appeared in an exhibition at the National Gallery of Art. It is a monoprint with collage, engraving and embossment on hand-dryed Twinrocker handmade paper.

We are putting out a special request to all of our parents and alumni to please consider culling your wine collection for our benefit!  We will gladly accept your donations of wine for the auction.  In the past we have had donations from a single bottle to a full case, and everything in between.  We are fortunate to have a number of resources (parents and alumni alike) that will be able to help us curate your generous donations.

For more information about the Gala – or to inquire about donating an auction item – please contact Director of Alumni Relations John Morrissey at 978-371-6523 or [email protected]
