The Middlesex Athletics Department is excited to announce the addition of girls’ volleyball to the fall 2013 sports schedule.
John Bishop will be serving as the head coach and brings with him extensive coaching experience and knowledge of the game. Coach Bishop’s background in volleyball began in high school when he played on the varsity team at Andover High School for three seasons. A captain of the team his senior year, Coach Bishop earned all-league honors. He was selected to participate in the Bay State games throughout his high school career as well as on a Junior Olympic club team as a senior. Upon graduating from Andover High School, Coach Bishop went on to play club volleyball at Tufts University as well as in a competitive mens' league.
Ashok Pillai will be assisting coach Bishop with the team. During his tenure at Canadian Academy in Kobe, Japan, he was a four-year varsity letter winner in volleyball and captained the team his senior year. At Williams, Ashok played for the club volleyball team all four years and was the starting setter beginning his sophomore year. In his final season with the Ephs, he served as captain, club president and helped lead the team to the New England Collegiate Volleyball League (NECVL) playoffs.
Middlesex will join many other independent schools in the New England Prep School Fall Girls Volleyball Association (NEPSFGVA). Currently, there are six schools in the Independent School League (ISL) that offer volleyball and the Zebras are looking forward to facing some of the top programs in New England.
Volleyball at Middlesex will start out at the junior varsity level, but we will compete as a varsity program by the fall of 2014. Depending on interest, we intend to offer volleyball as a fall sport option at both the jv and varsity level.
For new students who have already mailed in their fall sports request card, please contact Athletic Director Joe Lang at email@example.com if you wish to put volleyball as your new choice.
