MxAA Gala Benefit and Auction Update

The Middlesex Alumni Association was established in 2004 with a mission to strengthen the existing ties between alumni and the School.  Since then, the Alumni Association Board of Directors has established a wide array of outreach programs aimed at providing Middlesex graduates with the opportunity to enrich their alumni experience.  The feedback we’ve received has been quite affirming.  Danny Hughes’ 02 speaks out on MxAA’s Career Advisor program:

“Like many people setting out after college, I had little idea of what I wanted to do next.  The single most valuable resource during this time was the Middlesex Alumni Association.  Through their Career Advisor program, I was able to meet alumni who introduced me to a wide variety of industries.  Each was friendly, helpful, and willing to assist and connect me with anyone they could.  As a result, I found my first job and I am grateful for the help that the Alumni Association provided me.  I encourage any Middlesex alumni recently removed from college or considering a career change to explore the capabilities of the Career Advisor program.”                           - Danny Hughes ‘02

A successful Gala Benefit and Auction will allow us to continue to help alumni like Danny, as well as to fund the various outreach programs that we provide to the School’s alumni.

Moving on to the fun stuff, it’s important that we let you know about some limited seating opportunities for the evening! The live auction will feature a runway-like platform from which our professional auctioneer will not only entice bidders, but most likely entertain all with a little bit of back-and-forth crowd play.  You can get a guaranteed front row seat to the action if you reserve a table for you and your friends.  These tables are limited, seat 8, and are available for $1500.  If you are interested in reserving a table please contact John Morrissey, Director of Alumni Relations;

Some of the auction items that will definitely get the bidding going include:

* Waterfront weekend stay at golfer’s paradise, Fishers Island in New York – You and your friends can relax, explore the island, and in between it all, fit in a round of golf for you and two of your golf buddies with Scott Reid ’84 at “The Big Club” – Fishers Island Club, whose course was ranked ninth in America’s Top 100 Golf Courses by Golf Digest.

* Napa Wine Country Idyll – the winning bidder can look forward to two days of wining and wandering at the Gamble Vineyards in Northern California .   Nestled along the Napa River, the guest house offers amazing views of the vineyards below, and will accommodate up to four couples.  Your visit also includes a private tasting with winemaker Jim Close or vintner/owner, Tom Gamble at his home located right in Gamble’s Sauvignon Blanc Vineyard.

* Nike Tennis Camp – Play and stay at Amherst College located in Massachusetts’s Pioneer Valley, receiving 5-6 hours of daily instruction at this five-day camp.  Instruction from teaching pros, college players and coaches include individual skills, match play and fitness training.  The camp offers different programs for students 9-18 years of age.

* Hand-selected, mixed case of Paul Hobbs Wine – Parent Paul Hobbs ‘P13 produces some of the most highly acclaimed wines in America.  Producing small lot, hand-crafted, vineyard designated wines that capture a ‘sense of place’, Paul Hobbs wine is rooted in tradition but with a nod toward ‘forward expression’.  The winning bidder will receive 4 bottles each of; 2010 Russian River Valley Chardonnay, 2010 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, and 2011 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir.

We are still accepting donations for the Auction.  In particular, we would love donations of vacation homes, or tickets to Boston/New York based sporting events (thanks, but we have enough Red Sox tickets).  Please call Director of Alumni Relations, John Morrissey to discuss any ideas that you may have.  John can be reached at 978-371-6523 or
