Fall Athletes Recognized at Awards Assembly

With winter athletics already in full swing, the Middlesex community paused on December 10 to recognize the accomplishments of its athletes at the fall awards assembly. It was another banner season for the Zebras. They won New England Championship titles, achieved nearly undefeated records, and added valiant postseason performances to their list of achievements.

The boys' cross-country team once again led the charge, capturing the division III New England Championship title and placing second in the ISL Championship meet. On the girls' side, the team went 10-4 on the season with the varsity team taking fourth at the ISL meet and third at the New England Championship. Both the boys' and girls' JV teams raced their way to a first place finish in their final contests of the season.

The varsity football team ended their campaign on a high note with a hard-fought 28-27 victory over St. George's. The Zebras had an overall record of 4-4 and are looking forward to the return of a healthy roster of veteran players next fall.  Other notable highlights of the season included: a 25-12 win in their season opener versus St. Marks and a thrilling 35-21 victory over Thayer on Parents' Weekend.

After falling to St. George's last season, the boys' varsity soccer team came up with a decisive 3-0 win over the Dragons to close out strong. The boys' JV squad once again demonstrated the depth of the program by finishing with an overall record of 10-2-3, while for the second year in a row, thirds finished with a winning season at 6-3.

Both the girls' varsity and JV soccer programs continued to make steady improvements throughout the fall.  On the varsity side, the team picked up their first league win of the season against Thayer as well as took down Class A power house Phillips Exeter and was awarded the ISL Sportsmanship Award.  Meanwhile, the JV team had notable victories over St. Paul's, Lawrence and Groton to name a few.

The girls' JV field hockey team turned the tides of their season as they embarked on a four-game winning streak in October to once again close out the fall with more wins than losses. Finally, for the 18th year in a row, the girls' varsity field hockey team earned a spot in the Class B New England Championship tournament.  After completing the regular season with an overall record of 14-1-2, the team entered postseason as the top seed.  And after defeating Berkshire Academy 2-0 in the quarterfinals, the Zebras battled with Cushing in the semis but came up just short of a victory.
