In 2002, Amory Ross carved his senior plaque depicting a racing boat in action, inspired by a 2001 Volvo Ocean Race sailing photo.
A decade later, Amory found himself aboard the PUMA Mar Mostro, a Volvo Open 70 racing yacht competing in the 2011-12 Volvo Ocean Race. As the Media Crew Member, Amory was responsible for capturing all the high-speed action in photographs, blogs, and film. While his plaque seems prescient, Amory says, "At the time I carved the plaque I calculated zero chance of ever doing the race myself!"
After Middlesex, Amory went on to sail at Hobart College. Before boarding the Mar Mostro, Amory was part of the All-American Offshore Team for the 2011 Transatlantic Race and the 2011 Rolex Fastnet Race. He was also a crew member aboard Genuine Risk, the winner of the 2010 Newport Bermuda Race. Following, his Volvo Ocean adventures, Amory continued to combine his passions for sailing and art through filmmaking for the Oracle Racing Team, an America's Cup competitor.
