Beyond Horizons - Visiting Artists

Beyond Horizons: Ria Brodell & Georgie Friedman

VISITING ARTIST EXHIBITION:  Beyond Horizons: Ria Brodell & Georgie Friedman

ARTIST RECEPTION AND TALK - November 2, 2012 @ 6:30 PM

Middlesex School's Cornelius Ayer Wood Gallery is pleased to announce the exhibition Beyond Horizons by Boston-based artists Ria Brodell & Georgie Friedman.  This exhibition marks the first time the two have shown work together.

Brodell’s exquisite drawingsThe Distant Lands are pictorial records of animals in their natural habitat.  Whimsical at first glace, upon further investigation they question the notion of ‘reality’ and comment on larger issues such as war, history, and politics.

Friedman’s videos “Seas and Skies” are composites of incongruous waters and skies. With these pairings, the realism and perspective begin to shift within the frame. The idea of the ‘horizon line’ is questioned and the scenes lose their context and become anonymous. By pushing the limits of the frame, and emphasizing the interior architectural elements, this installation creates an environment that becomes sculptural, visual and experiential.

Both artists have exhibited extensively at major museums including the MFA and Decordova, and have been reviewed by publications such as the Boston Globe, Art New England, Boston Magazine, and NPR.  We are honored to have them at Middlesex.
