While originally forecasted to be rainy, the 48th Annual Head of the Charles Regatta turned out to be the warmest one on record, setting a gorgeous backdrop for the Middlesex students and alumni who competed in races throughout the weekend.
On both Saturday and Sunday, Middlesex friends, alumni, parents, faculty and staff gathered at the Middlesex tent in the Reunion Village, an area filled with schools and clubs from around the country at a convenient viewpoint halfway down the racecourse. From this vantage point on the riverbank, spectators could clearly watch crews pass under the Weeks bridge and vie for the best entry point to the Anderson bridge, a crucial bend in the course.
Middlesex cheers filled the air throughout the weekend, growing especially boisterous as our Alumnae 8 and Girls' 4 rowed past! Many other alumni competed on behalf of various crews, often stopping by the tent after their races to grab a sandwich and accept congratulations from their fans.
Highlights from the weekend include a strong 13 of 34 finish (first out of the secondary school crews) for the Alumnae 8, and an impressive rally from the Girls' 4, who beat out rivals Nobles and Brooks! Alumni on the river this weekend included a former Olympian, All-American college competitors, and graduates spanning 7 decades, proving the depth of the Middlesex Crew program. Thank you to the 70+ fans who stopped by our tent this weekend, and to all of the students and alumni who represented Middlesex in this year's regatta. For more information about specific Middlesex competitors and their race results, please contact Alex Hanken at firstname.lastname@example.org.
