Does the school prefer that I complete the Middlesex application, or may I submit a common application?
We have no preference; you may use our application, the SSAT standard application, or the TABS application. While we have elected not to participate in Gateway to Prep Schools this year, we will accept copies of recommendation forms submitted through that service. Do I need to interview before the January 15 application deadline?
No, we will be interviewing through January 28, but we ask students who interview between January 15-28 to complete their applications (or as much as possible) by January 15.
Do you offer Skype, telephone, or off-campus interviews?
Middlesex does not offer off-campus interviews. Skype or telephone interviews are conducted only at the invitation of the Admissions Committee.
What tests do I need to take?
The Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT) or Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE) is required for applicants to grades 9 and 10. Applicants for grade 11 may submit current year SSAT, PSAT or SAT scores.
In addition to SSAT or ISEE, the TOEFL Test is required of all international applicants whose primary language is not English.
What is the application process for an international student?
International applicants follow the same application process as domestic students (see our How to Apply page), with the exception of the TOEFL test which is required if English is not your primary language. The application fee is $100 for international students.
What is the application fee?
The application fee is $50 for domestic students and $100 for international applicants, payable by check or credit card if you are submitting an online application.
Is there a different deadline for financial aid applications?
No, the deadline is January 15 and complete information about the financial process is available at http://www.mxschool.edu/financial-aid .
Financial aid applicants who are admitted to the school will also receive notification of the financial aid decision on March 10.
My 2011 taxes will not be available by January 15; what should I do?
Please submit your Parents Financial Statement (PFS) directly to the Student and School Service for Financial aid (SS) with estimated 2011 numbers by January 15 and include a signed copy of your 2010 tax return (including all schedules). The PFS is available electronically at http://sss.nais.org/
You may also submit tax documentation to SSS at the same website. Paper forms must be sent to the address below. Domestic families must send a copy of their most recent W-2's and 1040 Federal Tax Forms, with all schedules, to SSS by January 15:

When your 2011 Federal Tax Forms become available, please sent to SSS at the above address. All financial aid awards made on March 10 without the 2011 forms are preliminary and contingent upon verification with the 2011 tax returns.
If we receive a financial aid award for 2012-13, do I need to reapply in future years?
Yes, each year the families of returning students who receive financial aid must complete the financial aid application. If there is not a significant change in your family's financial strength, you may expect continued support at a similar level of funding.
Is the financial aid process different for International students?
International students who apply for financial aid must complete the Parents Financial Statement as outlined above, converting their currency into US dollars, and submit tax documentation.
How do I check to make sure Middlesex has received all my application materials?
Once you have submitted application materials, you may track their status online by creating an account through our application website. If you apply through another method besides our online application (SSAT, TABS, etc), you will still need to create an online account in order to track your application. We will send you an email with instructions once your application has been processed. Please keep in mind that it may take some time for our office to process your materials, so there will be a lag between when you send materials and the online system shows that we have received them.
I sent my transcripts. Why is the transcript box not checked on the notification page?
Regarding your transcripts, your application will be considered complete when our office receives your final set of term grades from your school. If you are on a semester system and final grades are not available until after January 15, please still have your school send them to Middlesex. Your application will not be adversely affected by the later arrival of your final grades.
