Getting a major role in the spring musical, Sweeney Todd, her freshmen year was pretty exciting. But getting an ensemble role as a sophomore was pretty fine too. It's the same stage, after all, and it's the environment that Katie and her peers create that makes theater at MX so much fun and so relaxing--not just the role.
Katie has enjoyed her time on stage at MX most because she has continued to work with a cast that is positive, motivated, and kind. It takes a lot of courage to perform in front of your peers, so knowing you have people who will rush up and offer congratulatory hugs after a performance is important. Hearing the cheers her freshmen year has made Katie feel comfortable just going for it. Small Chorus audition? No problem. Fall play? Not a big deal. Summer theater workshop at Northwestern? All over it. It's fun, it’s creative, and it’s possible—and that's all that really matters.
