Kingman Cup Golf and Tennis Tournament
In 2013, the Middlesex Alumni Association named its annual golf and tennis tournament in memory of Brad Kingman. Kingman influenced Middlesex in many ways over his 39 years as a teacher, coach, dorm parent, administrator, mentor, and friend. The first Kingman Cup was played at Concord Country Club, drawing nearly 70 alumni, parents, and friends of Middlesex. In addition to providing a day of fun and camaraderie, the event also raised over $5,000 for the Bradford S. Kingman Fund for faculty support at Middlesex. Since that first year, support for the event has only grown thanks to generous alumni, parents, and friends of the School. Whether you are a golfer or a tennis player, the day is filled with competition, laughter, and fun!
This year we will be playing at the beautiful Myopia Hunt Club in South Hamilton, Massachusetts. Expertly designed by Herbert Leeds, this beautiful 18-hole course was completed in 1901 and refined over a number of years as Mr. Leeds watched the better golfers play the course, and then added bunkers to sufficiently challenge the players. In the early years of the U.S. Open, the Club hosted the tournament four times; 1898, 1901, 1905, 1908. Additionally, the Myopia Hunt club is the only club to have 2 holes on Golf Magazine‘s list of top 100 holes; the 4th and 9th.
Participation in our tennis tournament continues to grow, and we look forward to another great year of friendly competition on 4 of their pristine clay courts. Style of tournament play has yet to be determined, so stay tuned.
