Instrumental Groups at Middlesex

Jazz Orchestra is by far the swingingest ensemble on campus!  With typically 10 – 12 musicians, we are both a little big band (playing big band – style arrangements) and a large combo (with lots of room for solos).  Repertoire covers many styles: swing, soul jazz, funk, Afro-Latin, modern.  Playing in the jazz ensemble is a great way to improve your musical skills, explore new types of music, and have a lot of fun (while earning academic credit!).

Chamber Ensemble is our classical instrumental group. Students may participate in the group as a course for academic credit, when combined with studio lessons, or as an extracurricular activity.

Steel Pan Ensemble explores the rich tradition of steel pans. The group performs at the Spring Instrumental Concert and Spring Carnival. Steel pan ensemble is open to novice musicians, but it is also a great opportunity for students who play drum set, guitar or bass to delve into a new area of music.
