Coxswain Leigh Carrol and team USA had an outstanding performance at the 2011 World Rowing Under 23 Championships this summer in Amsterdam. Leigh and her teammates came home with a bronze trophy after narrowly missing the silver by a second to New Zealand.
Of her experience Leigh says, “The weather was pretty crazy for the final (which was held on Sunday). It was very windy, rainy, and cold. We were all very cold sitting on the line waiting for the race to begin, but once we started it was straight into race mode and all those thoughts or worries disappeared completely…It was a very hard fought race in tough conditions and although we had had our sights set on gold, I was happy with our effort and results. I was proud to be part of team USA.”
Now entering her senior year, Leigh will rejoin her teammates at Brown University as a coxswain for the men’s team. Be sure to follow Leigh in her final season by visiting: http://www.brownbears.com/sports/m-crew/2010-11/releases/201108235uj633
