The Middlesex Music Department is excited to announce that the celebrated Afro-Latin Jazz musician William Cepeda will be Composer-in-Residence during the 2010-11 school year! He has been commissioned to compose music for the Middlesex Jazz Orchestra, then to rehearse and perform it with us in our Spring Concert on Friday, April 8, 2011.
Born in Loiza, Puerto Rico, Mr. Cepeda was immersed in the rhythms and melodies of the native music before attending the Berklee College of Music, where he earned a BA. He also holds a Master of Music from the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College, and is on the faculty of the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music.
Mr. Cepeda has performed and toured with such luminaries as Dizzy Gillespie, Tito Puente, Miriam Makeba, and Eddie Palmieri.
